What's with all the fuss about New Year's eve??? Everyday I see zillions of adverts in the newspapers all claiming the best party of the year or whatever.....all with fancy titles which make no sense- Xtravaganza!, Xtacy!!, Reverb 2008- , fancier prices(5000 bucks!-i could buy 5 new dresses with that), and djs whom noone has ever heard of before especially "international" djs. How about telling us if any of these "international" djs were a hit in their respective countries?
New year was never really a big deal for me....I didn't think one was supposed to do anything special on new year's eve....maybe because mum always had to work at the hotel on that night and i usually stayed at home and watched whatever came on the telly......yep there used to be some gooood stuff on the tube on 31st december. I think it was maybe a couple of years ago that i realised oookkk it's supposed to be a huge thing and one is deemed a loser if -gasp! god forbid- one decides to stay at home on NEW YEAR'S EVE! I mean I got laughed at for going to watch a movie that day! Ok so it was only one person who laughed(pointing et all) but still! What's wrong with watching Chicken Little on the 31st of december i ask ya? Do I need a muhurat?
But you know what, last year there was nothing good to watch on the telly. NOTHING. Jeez...you'd think they'd have a heart for those of us who do not have boyfriends they want to go out with and are not allowed to go partying with friends. That's right....not allowed to go partying. And I totally understand my parents' point of view...it aint pretty out there....what with people getting drunk and high and stuff...I'd worry about me too.
So what i wanna know is who the fish started this trend??? Ok, new year, big deal. Isn't a bit strange to celebrate the passage of time? I thought we all wanted more of it......I guess people just want an excuse to party and i mean PARTY....hmpf and because of that, us reluctant ones are getting caught up in the madness too. Really, would you like it if your pals are out having fun without you? Or if you're given the eyebrow the next day- "You mean you stayed at home all evening???"
Well as y'all have probably guessed, I am NOT in a very good mood. Why are things the way they are? Why is it that the more you want something, the less are your chances of getting it? Why do stupid things matter more than the real deal? Why are we all in a race for power and money? Why do we care what other people think? Why do we care about people who don't know we exist? Why do we take people for granted?
Why do nice people finish last???????????
Annoyed at the way of the world, this is me signing off for now.

Daughter Of The East : Done In
Time : 6:16 pm
Place : Rawalpindi
Benazir Bhutto : Dead
Another killing of a public figure. I don't know why but I find them so unreal. A few years ago when Pramod Mahajan was shot by his brother and he died in the hospital after some days. I didn't think that could happen! Public figures live for the public and continue to do so as long as the public exists. Not long after, Saddam Hussain was captured. His trial went on for a long time and finally it was announced that he would be executed. That couldn't possibly happen could it? It did. On New Year's Day. And with New Year's Day around the corner, another one is deprived of the chance of seeing it.
Terrorist attacks have become so commonplace now. I wonder what's it going to be like in the future. What kind of stories am I going to tell my kids about my childhood? I know I didn't spend it like all those people during the World Wars but I will have a bagful of gruesome stories for them
BABRI MASJID DEMOLITION
I was only 2 years old at that time, so I really don't know much about it, but what I gather from my father's diary account is that it stirred up a hornet's nest. Old City was rocked by riots and violence. My 2nd birthday was a low profile affair as the incident did happen on December 6th. I can make out by looking at the photos. Word has it that the BJP demolished a mosque in Ayodhya to construct a Ram temple instead as you know, its Ayodhya. May I ask was it the only piece of land available? Vaastu theek nahi tha kya? Secular country, indeed
RAJIV GANDHI'S ASSASINATION
6 years old and still not a clue about current affairs. I don't remember a single thing
WTC ATTACK
All wised up now, followed up on every article about the fateful day a hijacked flight was flown straight into the WTC towers while another one smashed into the Pentagon. Heard the name Osama Bin Laden for the first time and saw terror and its far reaching effects for the first time. A series of disasters followed. I vaguely remember some trouble at the JFK airport after 9/11. America was on high alert. I don't know if the Iraq War is a consequence of all these events. But Mr. bin Laden got what he wanted - global strife. Could it reach such a state that I could say one day I saw a World War too? World War 3? The cat-mouse game between him and the US continues even today. No one knows where he is today. But was puzzled me was how we saw interviews and tapes of him. It dawned on me perhaps the mediapersons were taken to their hideouts blindfolded so that even if they wanted to squeal later they couldn't as they don't know the place. Otherwise they would have ended up as Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl.
LONDON BLASTS
Seemed like a little brother of the WTC attacks but shocked everyone all the same
MUMBAI BLASTS
But these were global incidents. Surely it wouldn't happen in India right? I forgot that India was a part of the globe too. 7/7 and scores of local trains in Mumbai went up in flames, reminescent of the Godhra massacre. But what can you say? The eternal love affair between Mumbai and the underworld still continues....
HYDERABAD BLASTS
Something closer to home and a stone's throw from my college. The Laser Auditorium in Lumbini Park exploded at around 7:30pm along with Gokul Chat centre in Koti. High alert everywhere and of course some finger pointing seeing that this had come only 2 months after the Mecca Masjid blast.
Heights of stupidity : A motorist hands an unidentified black bag in the hands of a policeman hours before the blast saying it wasn't his and sped off. Right after news of the blasts spread, the bag was opened..to reveal what? A bomb.
And oh, how do you amuse yourself after such morbid events occur? Make bomb hoax calls of course! Like the one to my college where all the teachers told us to vacate the campus immediately in deathly quiet voices which tried to supress the mad urgency
And now Bhutto. She survived a suicide attack just 2 months ago but she wasn't so lucky this time. Had 5 bullets pumped into her with an AK-47 and...you should really admire their meticulous planning...a suicide bomber just in case that failed. You know, I really don't understand suicide bombers. You get a raw deal anyways don't you? Kill loads of people and kill yourself too. Don't they have families who care for them? Or would their families rather have them dead by "doing a service to God"? Who are you kidding anyways? When is this going to stop? We don't need any real life murder mysteries for our entertainment , thank you!

Getting There
Yayy I finally asserted my independence! Stood on my own two feet! Travelled the lonely road! Made the journey!!.....Er, went alone in an auto that is:D
It wasn't such a big deal actually but I, being a first timer, had to face some unusual problems.
I came down the stairs of my college and saw quite a few autowallahs parked outside. Oooooook.
Nobody told me how to choose which one to take. Autowallahs are one of my big fears so this one was tricky- I avoided the ones who were scowling like the villains one sees in telugu films and chewing paan(don't ask) and got into an old guy's auto. Unfortunately his auto was as old as he was. Crash! Bang! Creak! Rattle! Groan! God. I wondered if we'd make it in one piece or just with the autoguy holding the handlebar(whatever it's called) and me standing behind him. And he mumbled something i didn't understand so i had to go Huh??? atleast thrice before i took a wild guess at what he was trying to say and answered his question....Phew lucky one. Oh and of couse, I got ripped off. The meter was going faster than Scooby Doo going for a Scooby snack. Jeeeeez. And duh as it would have to happen in a situation like this, I was broke......so I dug out 38 bucks from my bag somehow and asked him to stop when the meter read 38.......and yeah walked the rest of the way home!! Hehe but it's ok...it wasn't that far, and god knows i could use the exercise......
So I made it!! Got ripped off and the auto nearly fell apart(what? it felt like it was going to!) but I maayaaade it!!! Tra la la la la. Haha. I so rule.

It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas
It's one day before Christmas and this is just how Christmassy it's going to get. The newspapers carry a few articles about Christmas everyday, they've put up 2 huge inflatable Santas in front of Chandana Bros. and CMR mall, St. Pauls have put up a huge clothsy star bearing greetings behind NTR garu and the destitute have taken to selling bobble hats for a living. Really, I wonder if they truly understand what Christmas is all about, poor things, for them its just some commercial holiday out of which they try to make a living. There's an old beggar near my mother's office that dresses in red with a green scarf and wears a red hat and has fluffy white hair and a beard, just like Santa Claus you know. Funny, isn't it? It breaks my heart to see someone who bears resemblance to one of the jolliest, popular icons should be so wretched.
Santa kinda scared me when I was little. Scared, as in that I would be shy and wouldn't know what to say to him when I finally met him. On Christmas Eve, I'd push my wishlist into a sock and wait with anticipation and next morning, lo, a present!! Of course, I had begun to doubt his existence when I found a Foodworld price tag still suspiciously stuck to my bag of chocolates and the wrapping paper which Santa had wrapped my gift with had appeared in a corner of my room a few days later. That's when the news was broken to me. I never made wishlists again. Why did we ever grow up? (Gosh, this is making me cry)
Christmas in FIITJEE would only be a printout of Santa Claus with MERRY CHRISTMAS typed below it and stuck to the notice board and of course, a holiday on 25th (they don't want to be considered non-secular, do they?) Christmas in school? Now you're talking! Enter December and the entire mood changes. Practise for carol-singing competitions, plays and dances would begin in November itself as our Christmas programme would be put up on any day between 7th to 10th (it fell on my birthday once) right before our half yearlys. In kindergarten, we would be given biscuits and lollipops to eat. The lollipops sucked. (hee hee get it?) I'd always exchanged it for more biscuits but it's still a memory. But when the canteen reopened after being shut for 9 years (as "Canteen Sister" was ill), we frequented there for our goodies. Stood in line to get to the place where they sold Melts, samosas, Joker cones (I like them, OK?) and the yellow Tutus chips (yup, good old Tutus!) The school would be decorated with tinsel wreaths and thermocol greetings. A diorama of the baby in the manger would be put up in front of the marble statue of St. Mary in the garden. The little kids would also make their own models and a competition would be held to see who's is the best. Carols from practice would pleasantly float up to our classroom. I learned a lot of carols that way. Growing up in the lap of Christianity, I know more stories from the Bible than the Bhagwad Gita. The grottoes of our patron saint and our foundress would also be decorated. There was so much more to it, I remember but I can't put them down. Christmas time was so much fun in school, you really ought o be there to experience it. It's nothing like the commercialised version of Christmas you see outside. It's disgusting the way these great malls deck themselves up and put on great sales and go all "So who's Santa are you being this year?" I'm not against giving but wouldn't it be nicer if it was given to someone who really needed it? Christmas, although Santa is associated with it, is primarily, Christ and his sacrificing nature, something which I will not forget thanks to the teaching of my alma mater. Coupled with its principles and a miniature and plastic, but nevertheless, pine tree, Christmas comes to St. Ann's...
Christmas also meant HOLIDAYS while in school, like a proper vacation (something unheard of in FIITJEE) and of course, Christmas specials on Cartoon Network!!! How I'd wait for an entire year just for that one week of T.V. viewing. All week long they would show Christmas episodes of regular cartoons like Johnny Bravo, Scooby Doo etc. The good ones would be saved for Christmas day like Christmas comes to Jimmy Creek, one of my favourites where a greedy boy named Jimmy Creek writes Santa a long letter of things he wanted but Santa mistakenly (or perhaps purposely) delivers them to a town name Jimmy Creek and manages to inculcate the spirit of giving in him, Christmas comes to Pacland and many more and of course!!!!!!! The Grinch who stole Christmas!!! (You're an evil one, Mr. Grinch!) Yeah those were the times.....I doubt if they even show Christmas specials of regular cartoons now. Christmas has become so much more Scrooge like (bah humbug!). I would be truly pleased to meet the ghost of Christmas past, maybe it can show me all my other school memories of Christmas. The ghost of Christmas present? Not really, unless it brings me a Christmas present (hee hee) and the ghost of Christmas future? Maybe it will show me putting up a real live Christmas tree, helping the poor as I always wanted to (poor Santa look-alike, bless his soul!) and I hope my posterity would see the true spirit of Christmas as I really have.
Joy to the world!!
Merry Christmas everybody!!!

Animals In A Human Zoo
Let's assume that FIITJEE is a zoo and we students are its inhabitants. How do we function? Just as any normal zoo, I suppose. We all have our own cages and stay their with our own species but we like to come out and mingle at times, that is until the game warden comes and ushers us back in. We hoot, scream, roar, cackle, jump from benches and hang from the ceiling in our spare time. Please don't feed us, we feed ourselves and obviously we are educated, do you take us for animals? But zoos are used to members of other species paying visits, we however are not.................
Our encounter with the other kind would mostly be limited to pigeons and dragonflies, which can be sighted only if you go to the terrace. Or sometimes, it would be the humongous doggie next door that likes to assert itself by looking over the wall and barking loudly....
Rachina : Dogs woof
Me : Dogs bark
Rachina :DOGS WOOF!!!!!!!!!
Me : DOGS BARK!!!!!!!!!
OK, it did sound more like a woof so then why did we learn it as dogs bark when we were taught animal sounds? The system, I tell you! What is it teaching kids these days? But a really close encounter came one fine day in May, in the middle of Physics class..
Vachan : Pssst.. There's a rat!
SQUEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me : That's not a rat, it's a mouse.
Apu : Does it make any difference????
Me : Sure it does! Mice are cuter. Can I name it Wendell?
It turned out that there were two and were desperately trying to get out of the room. They were following some kind of pattern, running along the edges and twice, one came near the board
Sir (to mouse) : If you would like to explain something please go ahead
Mouse looks at Sir and twitches its ears
Sir (to class) : What is this, a mouse or a tiger?
And then continue its relay race around the class
Rachina : Hmmm atleast they're smart enough to know that the corner is not in the middle of the room
Me : I always said mice were intelligent...
SQUEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apu : The rat just went past my leg!!!
Me : It's just your skirt!!! And it's not a rat, it's a mouse
Apu : NO I'm damn sure its the rat
Me : It's your skirt rey and its a mouse!
And more recently, one day in the corridor..
Me : So what were you telling me?
Rachina : I was saying.....
SQUEAL!!!!!!!!! and I saw something orange streak past with a horde of boys pursuing it
I thought I thaw a putty-tat.
And it streaked past me again with the hooting boys in its wake
I did! I did! I did thee a putty-tat!
It was said that the cat went barging into A01 and made all the Einstiens pull a Napoleon and then jumped into the podium in A02. Poor thing must have been really scared!!!I went to find out what happened to it when Shehzaad Roy's Salli started playing in my head and I heard him say, "Hey, I heard they killed it" Oh yeah? If there's anything that needs extermination here, its you. But I think they did otherwise and it better be that way, or I'm suing this place
More recently, in the middle of an uneventful Maths period.......
Anisha : SQUEAL!!!!!!!!! COCKROACH!!!!!!!!!
Me : It's tiny!
Anisha : It's still a cockroach!!!
Ankita : Please Please, get it away from me!! I hate cockroaches
and made me change places with her. Peace once again, till the boys from the other side passed us a present..
Ankita : It's not funny!! Get it away from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (WHACK) Where'd it go?
Akshay : Hey, it's on your bag
Me : Sigh! Get off it, you vermin
and the cockroach showing mice-like intelligence made its way towards the door
Harsha : Come back!!!!!!!!!! Don't go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Akshay : Wait, I'll get it
Sir : What are you doing?
Akshay : Me, Sir? There's a cockroach, I was trying to throw it out. Shoo! Shoo!
Yeah...........It's a jungle in here

The Practical Difficulties Of A Practical - 2
It is with great pleasure that I announce that the award for conducting the worst practical exams goes to FIITJEE Junior College!
Ok, Chemistry. I thought I would breeze through it. They possibly couldn't mess this up too. but apparently it was not so.
Our external was a lady whom I'd never seen in my entire life but supposedly had the honour of her own cabin in the staff room. After finished with our volumetric theory, she told us to write down our salt analysis theory. But before that she said, "You people are not writing salt analysis properly. If you don't do it properly I will just tear the paper" And what was the proper way, may I ask?
1. Draw 3 columns.
Anyone with near human intelligence can do that!
2. Write down the preliminary tests
You got to start somewhere right?
3. Write down all the tests for anions and cations and at the very end write the cofirmatory test after doing the experiment
Unless you are blessed with the Inner Eye, you have absolutely no way of knowing which salt you are getting so why are we wasting our time doing this? I thought we were supposed to write as we go along! Oh and I'm sure it would be very much legible if the identification and confirmatory tests are miles apart from each other.
If that's not enough, she decided to test just how stupid we were by saying "Don't you know how to test for Group 1...blah blah blah" and blurting out the procedures. LADY, THIS IS AN EXAMINATION!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING??????? Even Manoj isn't that dimwitted. Anyways our demonstrator told us not to listen to her and follow the normal writing procedure. You know, I'm quite grateful that I'm slow at times because I just had to start writing the Carbonate Test (so how about taking SLOTH off the 7 deadly sins list, huh?)
She followed us in to the lab later and she caught two guys laughing at some unseen hilarity which their species are wont to do and drilled them about their chemical knowledge. They were clever enough to look ashamed near her but once out of eyeshot, they resembled Hell's angel. Oh yeah, she christened someone "Mr. Laugh" and behaved as if an offence punishable by death was committed when a guy misheard 0.05M for 0.01 M.
We were handed our salts. Pink. Manganese chloride. Well, that was easy! Wish I got a white one atleast, it would have been challenging. Anyways, let the experiment begin but before that, "Show me which cation and anion you got before writing it down!!!" GROAN.
I made my way through a sea of legs and stuck out bottoms to get to the reagents table. As luck would have it, manganese dioxide was over. I asked Sir for a new sample but he scrounged the last from the bottle and dumped it into my test tube and I braced myself. And then I got THE SMELL. The smelly smell. The smelly kind of smell that smells. CHLORINE. Cough, Cough back to table and tell people to move out of the way and write down the tests and take my paper to her.
"Are you satisfied that it's chlorine?" My nose is full of it, I'm MORE than satisfied!!!! Time for volumetric now which went pretty well except for occasional questions from the guy next to me and the groans of the guy opposite me about how agonising it is to have sulphuric acid fall on his hand. What a drama queen! Ask me, I've had sulphuric acid on my hand 3 times, hydrochloric once and also ammonium hydroxide. Hmpf, Showoff. And I finally discovered how to get excess base out of the pipette perfectly. Press the other end on the bottom of the beaker and lift your thumb very slowly. That'll work. I finished and I was asked to wait. I looked out of the window. I had a sudden urge to release my paper and let it go with the wind and I plead temporary insanity due to harmful effect of chemicals.
Well, now I can say I've succesfully completed my Practical Pre-finals unlike someone who's stars are obviously aligned well to arrange a holiday tomorrow (ahem cough COUGH)
P.S. Today we learnt about borg-lar alarms and I was asked to do a favour and tomorrow is Baa-aaa-krid.

The Practical Difficulties Of A Practical - 1
Whats' the big idea of announcing a practical pre-final just 2 days before it actually takes place? So I had to waste a whole day studying for that crap and even have my tutor fill me with that same boosha, instead of studying for AITS, and I still do pathetically!!
I wake up in the morning and I realise that the only experiment I can do well is PHYSICAL BALANCE!!!. So au contraire to most of my fellow victims who thought I'd gone loony for asking like, the most difficult one. And what did I get finally? Prism. PRISM!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I screwed it. Not the theory and all that. I was fine with the written part but I had to re-do the entire thing because my graph started to resemble the Himalayan peaks instead of the Himalayan valleys. So I used the old stand-by : faking. And I think I can get away it because our external was none other than Manoj........
Notice how I pronounce his name with disdain, Manoj....... Yes, the same "look at me, I'm smarter than you when I'm really not even qualified to teach a kindergartener the ABCs". He got to ask us our viva questions and boy isn't he all well informed! A few questions I overheard, my classmates being tortured with....
"What is jografeek merrydiyun?"
"How is semicondoctor used in jonkshun die-ode?"
"What is aangul of deep?"
And he was asking all the people with the same experiments to come over so that he can question us jointly. Lazy git...What is the point of that may I ask?
How are you going to know who's answering on their own without prompting or not? So when my turn came..
"If I pass laait thru aakromaatik doblate and it has two wevlenths, draw the ray daigrum. I dont want very gooood daigrum"
Acting all hoity-toity, "WHERE IS YOUR RECORD?"
Oh please remind me to bring it tomorrow Sir, so that I can hit you on the head with it so that you can have light passed through your eyes when you open them next at the hospital.
Well atleast I had the perseverance to study and attend my practicals, unlike certain people here (ahem, cough cough)

La Bella Vita????
OK Can it get any messier?? I know that just when i say that.....it will. Sure as hell. I don't like to whine(though i do....a lot) but what can you do when....
1) You have an exam on the 16th which you are going to bomb. Again.
2) You've had to hear how the rest of your class fared in a previous exam. No prizes for guessing that they did way WAY better than you did. You just lie and say you haven't checked your result.
3)You get to know that everybody knows what you thought they didn't know. But who cares...right? RIGHT????
4)You old clothes aren't very flattering on you anymore.(Sigh)
5)You wanna dance but there's no party! Put on music and dance at home?-What are ya, a loon??
6) There are two cartons of baskin robbins ice cream and two bottles of coke in the fridge; the little voices in your head are constantly arguing over whether it would be prudent to have some. Maybe just a little bit...No!Must resist!!...(see 4)
7)You decide it's payback time....Um but what exactly should you do? You don't even have time for payback time!
8)New year's eve coming up.....Of course you always have a sucky new year's eve while everybody is out partayyyingg.
9)You still can't drive!
10)All people can talk about is exams, studies blah di blah. What a snore-fest....
11)Everytime you open your book to study- you either feel sleepy or hungry or feel like watching a movie....er anything that will take you away from the book;) Golly no wonder you're eating so much
12)You're so bored with life you actually stay in class during break-time to study.(Gasp!)
13)Christmas is coming and you have a sudden hankering for presents-yeah right!
14)You've just realized you've wasted time blogging when you should have been studying.....AAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHH!
Sweet mama's glory I am gonna be in so much trouble!

This feeling's like no other....
Wow.
I mean wow. I certainly wasn't expecting this.....the sleepover started off normally enough.....with us stuffing our faces and watching lame teenage movies which i now realize are SO f***ing unrealistic and insignificant. Stupid even. So we decided to watch another movie....normal sleepover thing right?
The Notebook.....loads of people told me that it's a reallllyyyyy cuuuteee movie and I should totally watch it. What they didn't tell me is that it's so heart-wrenchingly beautiful, so poignantly moving and so very happy that it's almost sad. Can something like that really exist? So perfect just because it isn't! I talking real crap I know but what do I do? This movie evokes all emotions- I laughed, i called the girl a bitch, I went all "awwww" and.........................................................
ten minutes left for the movie to end and well well whaddya know- I'm bawling my head off! ME! I never cry during movies!!!! Except for one or two lame movies(homeward bound, kal ho na ho and that too only a teeeny bit)....Well yeah I was crying so hard I couldn't watch the end.....I just hid behind the pillow. Oh My God. And you know what? Allie was seventeen when she met Noah, her first and only TRUE love.
Well now it's like a big reality check.....tomorrow I go back to life's monotony. That's why I'm writing this now, in the moment. I know I sound like a total sap....but you gotta experience the magic of the movie to believe it....well atleast it was magical for me.....hehe I know tomorow it may seem trivial or whatever....and that makes me feel sad too.
Note to self- Do not watch movies which make you howl at 2 in the night and remind you of things you do not want to or should not be remembering.
Okay I am one messed up and confused person.....but honestly .....that was one of the most beautiful stories ever. I'm lost for words. Sorry guys I can't type anymore....I am just shocked.
Wow. That's it.
P.S. I say, I almost forgot- Happy Birthday Sayonee!

Why I cried after I turned 17.......
It's 1:48 in the morning and it's also my birthday, so happy birthday to me! I turn 17 today. People do a lot of things when they turn 17, like meet some guy at a carnival, poke fun at him when he threatens to jump off the ferris wheel unless you go out with him and yeah, take his pants off in full public view, just like Allie in "The Notebook"
Yes, a wonderful and sappy start to my birthday....I just cried and I absolutely loved it. You can't put in words, you just can't put this in words....................
It's beautiful and just so amazing and..........
Ok, we started out laughing in the beginning because Ryan Gosling, though a very good actor, has weird and funny expressions and yeah, he looks like Ranbir Kapoor in his hats but that's not the point...........
Ok I'm searching dictionary.com for words. Does that even give you a hint of what a loss I'm at!!!!!
Yes, we were cringing at all the "ahem" parts and I lost count of how many times we've used the word "bitch" or pointed fingers at the screen Nagaraj style What am I thinking of? Nothing. Why am I thinking of nothing?
I'm not sure. Is it this movie? I don't even remember the scenes that properly now but you know that feeling that just remains with you like how you look at the sun for a long time and even after you look away, you can still see it, only its dark , like its veiled or something
Ok, I'm talking nonsense, I want to delete this. Why can't I write this normally? I'm getting writer's block like atleast a zillion times a minute.
I want to talk about the movie. About how Noah makes Allie lie down in the middle of the road and stare at the traffic lights and then get up squealing when a car comes by and nearly runs them over and Allie laughs all strange-like more like the "huhuhuhuhuh" and grunting, how they are both fighting one moment and she slaps him and then they behave like it never happened, how she begs and pleads with him when he wants to break up and then tells him that she hates him and pushes him in the car.......and the house, the house he rebuilt from scratch, the house where he promised her a room where she could sit and paint and watch the sunset...Noah didn't sell the house, he tried to shoot the guy who offered $50,000 for it. He was offering too much money for the house and nobody in their right minds would do that and so he didn't want a lunatic living in his house(that was funny)
And Lon, what kind of a name is that? What kind of a person is he? He's all wired up and stiff as a board and he asks her out. And he has the audacity to remind her of it while dressed up in his uniform and it wasn't even as cute as Noah's reminder. Git. He knew he was making himself irresistible. Which girl can resist a guy in uniform? Poor guy, of course, he's not to blame, he just got pushed in.
The 366 letters, the duckies, the rain, the lake.......it was all so beautiful. The pain of seeing a loved one suffer right in front of your eyes and there's nothing you can do about but wait for tomorrow...
Was it a happy ending? No. Was it a sad ending? No. Was it a bittersweet ending? NO NO NO NO NO
What kind of ending was it? I don't know...I just don't....
P.S. It's mighty strange to write a blog entry in front of a live audience in the middle of the night

On the Street where you live
Did you ever think how restaurants came into being? I mean, they are like these public places where people go to eat when they get bored of home food, to lazy to cook or whatever. Restaurant food is always tastier than home food. They are always prettier than your home. They always treat you like a king and you don’t even have to clean the dirty dishes!!! (except when you don’t have enough money to pay your bills) Pourquoi, may I ask? But I’m not complaining. I love restaurants. I believe they are a public utility service of utmost importance.
So when a friend asked me if I wanted to sample this new restaurant, I was like,”Yeah! I’ll be there! What time?” At first, I found it a bit strange that the restaurant’s name should bear a resemblance to one of Samuel Clemens’s legendary characters and rumour has it that the place also houses its inanimate namesake, but the food is out of this world!!!! It was like a mélange of cuisines, a potpourri of different cultures juxtaposed with………oh, you get the point!!! My first time around and I gave it a double thumbs-up and now whenever my parents ponder over which restaurant to grace with their presence, I say “Can we go there please??????? Let’s go there!!! Please? Pretty Please!!!!!!!!”
So one afternoon, after some fine dining (uh, lunching), the same friend and I were standing outside waiting for an auto when she says,
“I really like this area, its pretty!”
“Yeah, me too!”
“Lot of cool places here like ________” and she gave me a whole list
“Wait, I thought they were in……….”
“Dude, we are in that place! Are you new around here?”
HOLD YOUR PONIES!!! You’re telling me this is…………………..
Suddenly the screech of a gramophone record and violins in the background
I have often walked down this street before,
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before,
All at once am I several storeys high,
Knowing I’m on the street where you live
Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Can enchantment pour out of every door?
No, its just on the street where you live
And oh, the towering feeling!
Just to know somehow you are near
The overpowering feeling
That any second you may suddenly appear
People stop and stare, they don’t bother me
For there’s nowhere else on earth that I would rather be
Let the time go by…………….
I don’t care if I……………..
Can be here on the street where you live
Ok, I’ve never seen a lilac tree in my entire life and I doubt very much if I had heard a lark but I couldn’t believe it. I had combed the City of Culture, every lane, every turn, every crossing and every corner hoping that they would hold signs of him already having visited that place or going to visit them. Every time I ventured out, it was like he fit in every scene that I looked at. And now after all this time….after all these years….the place that I visited occasionally and now stood at, had transformed in my eyes. This was it. My search has ended. Yeah, that’s where I was……………..on the street where he lived.

The Great Eraser Incident
Erasers. What do you do when errors mar your paper and you have no hope of correcting them? TA TA RA TA! ERASER TO THE RESCUE. Sometimes they are also called rubbers. You know I used to call them rubbers once upon a time but everytime I did, people would give me that freaky smile with that mad look in their eyes which I couldn’t understand but I solved the mystery only last year and now I think it would be more prudent to call it eraser
So it’s been quite sometime since The Great Realization. He sat all the way there in No Man’s Land and I found myself wishing one day that he were closer. And the very next day he packed his bags and moved into the bench next to me. Talk about wishful thinking. Cool!
One particularly uneventful day, my eraser seemed hellbent on getting way from the adhesive force that bound it to the desk and eloping with gravity. My hips were getting some exercise from all that bending. A dismembered voice behind me said “Oh God! You’re just doing that so that he would pick it up!”
Now I swear (cross my heart and hope to die) that I wasn’t even thinking about some thing like this until the idea was thrown at me. So the next time the eraser fell………….
Damn! Missed it!
I retrieved my eraser. A few seconds later it fell down again and this time, it was right near his foot.
Just ask him to pick it up, I told myself. No big deal. It doesn’t mean anything. Ask him now……..
Throughout the class, I tried to muster my courage. Ok, maybe break time.
Break Time………….
Not immediately!!!! Maybe I should wait for some time.
I came back into class, resolved that I would ask him to pick up that eraser but I couldn’t do it. You know why? THERE WAS NO ERASER ON THE GROUND!!!! Why that thieving, conniving little magpie! He picked up my eraser after all and I didn’t even get to ask him! Where is my eraser? I WANT MY ERASER!!!!
[A friend of mine after the narration of this incident “Oh that’s so like me, picking up stray erasers and using them”]
Teasing voices in the background, “Now you’ll never get it back! Serves you right!” and exit the class.
I saw him coming back. Ok, its now or never….
“Hey, have you seen an eraser lying around here anywhere?”
“Yeah, I put it here”, lifting the desk of the bench in front of him
“Thanks!”
The Next Day…………………
“Where did you get that eraser from?”
“I asked him for it. That’s all”
And I never let anybody touch that eraser again……………………………….

Penning the Pedagogues - 4
More rule breaking, more giggling, more consciousness about looks, more fun and of course cool navy blue ties……….high school had finally arrived.
HIGH SCHOOL
Mrs. Srilatha (Math, Chemistry) : She had this eerie air about her. Her sarcasm could cut you like a knife and you know you are in trouble when she gives you that creepy smile. Firm with her stiff upper lip but she was nice occasionally. Most people said that she just was that way to cover up for her lack of knowledge. On Children’s Day, she dressed up in a Hawaiian shirt and yellow chinos (yuck!)
Mrs. Jaya Samson (Math, Physics) : You could never sleep in her class. Was she that good? No, she was OK, she just screamed a lot. She made it a point to drill each and every point in her head but I’d rather listen to the sound of a drill. But don’t get me wrong, she was nice, she was just monotonous and droning
Mrs. Indira Rao (Math) : This lady had a firm grip on her subject and firmer grip on her students. She was plump and jolly but strict at the same time. Kinda like a scary teddy bear. You wanted to hug her and run away from her at the same time. But she was very helpful and supportive to us during our Boards
Mrs. Rugmini (Biology) : She was the mother of one of our batchmates, Sharanya but she never showed any favouritism. She was warm, kind and friendly and was an excellent teacher.
Mrs. Shashikala (Biology) : She was a very good teacher too. All you need is a neat handwriting and 50/50 in two consecutive exams and she’ll exemplify you even in front of your juniors (that’s me!) She was nice with helping me for my Genetics paper by lending me books. Her pet phrase was “Do you understand?” 10A recorded her saying it for a total of 131 times in the span of one period. Woah.
Mrs. Durga (Physics) : Durga symbolizes power and boldness…..and she was its living antithesis. Meek and mousy, she could barely raise her voice or hold the class’s attention for more than 5 seconds. The only concept that she taught well was “The working of a Xerox Machine”. Oh, and she so completely sucks at shotput
Mrs. Lalita Juneja (Hindi) : Excuse the strong language but she was a complete loony, demented, freaky nutcase!!! She derived some kind of pleasure from terrorizing students and embarrassing them. She twisted my finger during an exam because I was writing “before time”. One day, just because of a spasm of pain in my shoulder, she sent trudging across the entire school to get myself medicated and accused me of wasting her time!!! Her crassness just added to her personality. Our talented seniors had composed a poem in her memory :
“Hamari Hindi Teacher hain Mrs. Lallu,
Jo Girati hain uski pallu,
Aur uthati hain use hallu hallu”
Mrs. Indu (Hindi) : She was at any rate better than her predecessor. She was all smiles and jokes and fun inside class but outside, her face was indistinguishable from a stone gargoyle. A very opinionated person as well. We got to hear her views right from leaders of the yore to modern advertisements. She was quite liberal with praise as she was with rebukes. She told me to jump off a building because I backed out of the debate (Yikes!)
Mrs. Ribero (English) : She was quite a darling and she loved me naturally (I’ve been a favourite of English Teachers ever since I learnt the alphabet!) She was very sweet and soft-spoken and a very good music composer, songwriter and playwright and always helped put up our school stage shows. She was a good natured and a very God-fearing person. My only discrepancy with her was that she detested Harry Potter.
Ms. Elvina (English) : She liked me too but in a weird sort of way. Force something on me, if I do it right, praise me in a critical sort of way, screw it, yell at me. She was unmarried and so believed that she could mingle with us better. Um….not. Heard a lot of equestrian jokes about her too. She was fondly known as “Elamma” and I added “Elakamma” later in a fit of post-Meenaxi enthusiasm. But its true that she gave me a lot of opportunities in entering essay competitions and all.
Mrs. Hema (S.U.P.W) : She was boring. Period. Her ideas were boring. Period. S.U.P.W was a very boring period. Period.
Mrs. Tejeshwari (History) : History is boring and so was the teacher….so thought the rabblement but not me. She was high up on my respect list. Although she liked to have her finger in every pie at times, she mostly kept to herself and was level headed. Rumour has it that inspite of her impassive nature, I was her favourite student and why wouldn’t I be? I did top History in my batch consecutively for 3 years!
Mrs. Vinaysheela (Computers) : The post of Computer teacher at St. Ann’s was equivalent to that of Defence Against Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Nobody lasted for more than a year. But she lasted for two and she was quite good. But she was quite temperamental and a little insecure. I think she nurtured a secret wish of being a drummer because she liked to practice her moves on our heads and say “Hopeless Girls!” She was a funny dancer (refer to memory of “Yaad Piya ki Aane Lagi”)
Mrs. Shanti (Computers) : Did I mention we had two Computer teachers? One of them changed by the dozen but she remained, as fixed as ever. She used to scare me when I was little but she’s really alright. Just a little lethargic, lazy and misinformed that RANDOM NUMBERS WERE NOT A PART OF THE BOARD SYLLABUS!
Mrs. Celine (Games) : I would be doing her a grave injustice if I had mentioned her in any of my earlier posts because she was terror personified to all the little kids but she was an absolute favorite with us seniors. She was strict with us too but the rules were a little lax. She had this way of making things sound funny even by keeping a gaunt face. She was damn sweet! She’s the one who keeps our school going because if it wasn’t for her martinet policies St. Ann’s would have disintegrated into a place full of, as she would like to call it, “Junglee Maddus” Oh, she liked to call me See – yonee.
Mrs. Anumathai (Chemistry) : She was really sweet and nice and a very good teacher as well. A little lazy, yes, but everybody has shortcomings. She spoke real good English too and reminded me of Smita Patil. On the last day, she gifted each and evrery one of us with little prayer books. She offered to compensate for the slam book she lost by paying me for it and when I refused to accept it, she told me to consider it as a gift and her blessing and that really made me cry.
Mrs. Jaya Rajgopalan (Geography): I would say she was like the sun………big, round and full of gas. Things were fine in the beginning but somehow she hardened towards me the minute she found out that I was taking IIT tuitions. She had her own set of favourites and was of course “the best teacher in the twin cities”. Now if you were such a model teacher then you should know that the first quality of a teacher is to be UNBIASED. She unceremoniously booted me out from her favourites but of course she made it look like I could hang around the fringes. Uh…..no thank you, not interested! It was disgusting to see the way she pushed herself in the limelight and made a spectacle of herself and people gave her a wide berth. Sorry you didn’t make it to my respect list.
Mrs. Bernadine (Geography) : She had very large shoes to fill..literally. She wasn’t a “model teacher” but she was boring, a little annoying and real stingy with marks. She always taught with a pointer in her hand which we liked to call “Bernie ki Mooch”
Mrs. Indira Narayan (English) : Meet the topper of my respect list. Teacher par excellence, I can’t describe her to you. Graceful, dignified, good command over her English and a responsible citizen, you simply stand in awe of this lady! She’s very tech savvy too and that made her really popular with her students. I think it goes without saying that she adored me and vice versa. A good sense of humour and had an air of intelligence around her. She disliked Harry Potter too which was a real pity because otherwise I think we would have made the ideal student-teacher pair
Sr. Antonia (Principal) : The ringleader of our crazy circus, the man (er..woman) behind the show. Under her reign, I had seen some good and entirely crazy policies but she was a nice person but she wasn’t very articulate. Once while introducing me to some ex-students she said to me, “These are your seniors” and turning to them “This is your junior” Uh…OBVIOUSLY!!! But of course she led an austere life as a nun. She only had like a split A.C, refrigerator, divan, high speed Internet on a super computer and as I found out today from Harmeet, an Ipod in her office. Really, she leads a very simple life…

Dum dee doo dee dah! (yep that's how bored I am)
It's 11:45 on a saturday night and I'm bored. BORED. On a saturday night. Jeez what is the world coming to? There is nothing to watch on the telly-nothing i tell ya! Unless I watch that awful movie- Mr. ya Miss ( those who haven't heard of it, yeah you're better off) or Vivah, which i have already seen and loved but do not have the patience or the mood to sit through again.....hmm or i could watch cartoons on disney channel in telugu- uh NOT! So when bored, what do we do? We go online that's what we do! And if there's noone to chat with? Us lunatics talk to ourselves....hmm or a saner option would be to....yepp blog! So here I am, on a saturday night, bored, have I already said that?
So Me, Myself and I decide to pick out a template for the blog. Boy, I didn't know what i was getting myself(or is that me? maybe I?) into- ooh that blue swirly thingy is pretty! So is the red but Sayonee may not like it...darn! what about blue lighning-that's cool right? But it's too blue...Oh OH Unicorn!!:D No No it's toooo er cutesy...- jeez I'm never going to decide at this rate. Maybe i should let Sayonee decide...no no we'll probably end up with a collosseum in the backround or even worse- Cedric Diggory(yikes!)....Hehehe sorry Sayonee, all in good humour:)
So I had my PTM today-man did i breathe a sigh of relief once it was finished or what! They were pretty nice to me ya know especially physics. He kept laughing though in a really annoying way( heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh), sheesh with all due respect(he is good to me) ,I had to stifle my laughter- he was practically begging to be mimicked! Our teachers are pretty boring but very mimickable(erm if that is a word)...
Chemistry -"Ayyyee Saiilleence!(bang on desk and point with hand) Whaaat you are doing in the laast bench??"
Physics- " What's so special about the scientist Young- Even when he is 70 years people will still call him Young!" + aforementioned laughter; me of course banging my head on nearest available surface and wondering what I have done to deserve this!
Math- "Arre it's good yaar!" Hehe he's pretty cool, you know, for a math teacher, except when he gets into one of his moods and gives lecture on studying hard et cetera(makes me feel guilty, it does).
Oh yes the English teacher-loves rhyming words, according to him, we are 'monkey', we are 'flunky', we are 'dinky', we are 'donkey'. Gosh sir, I didn't know dinky was even a word, thank you so much for improving my vocabulary!
Ahhh and French, my favourite(to mimic-duhh!) " Baaayysss(boys), let us do somethinggg-a nice-a todayy" Hello sir? It's the girls....this is just to let you know that, uh, you know, WE EXIST! And we do not appreciate being addressed along with the Baaaaayyysss!
Wheee! I think I've finally found a template!:D:D And HSM2 song is playing so im lost, can't type anymore....."Everyday of our lives...wanna find you there wanna hold on tight.....wanna run while we're young and keep the faith!!"(singing loudly-hoping mum doesn't wake up)
Arrr good night mateys....I'll be backkk!!! (heh heh heh heh heh heh!)
